Perfect day in Las Palmas – 8 things to do and see

Immerse yourself in the stunning world of Las Palmas, the capital of Gran Canaria, and the beautiful hometown of our Feel Surf Camp. The city has a lot of various activities and attractions to offer. Take a walk through the old town, soak up the atmosphere, try delicious food, dance, smile, and enjoy every moment! Here are our 8 tips for you!

1️⃣ Vegueta 

The historic old town of Las Palmas is called Vegueta. There you can find most of the cultural sights of the city. ?️ Historical buildings, great atmosphere, and of course the Tapas Night every Thursday.

2️⃣ Mercado de Vegueta

Only here for the food? Well, that’s ok. Besides a big offer of different restaurants, you can visit the local market. It is situated in the old town, so you won’t miss it! There is even a bus going right to this place, in case you are staying on the beach. The market deals mainly with ? seafood, ? fruit, ? meat, and ? cheese. All the products are made in the soil of Gran Canaria.

3️⃣ Catedral de Santa Ana

The most dominant building is situated in the heart of the Vegueta with a small dog’s square. It was the first church in the whole Canary Islands, built in 1500. We recommend you go up to one of the cathedral’s towers and you will have a really nice view of the city of Las Palmas.

4️⃣ Casa de Colón

If you like museums and old buildings you really can not miss Casa de Colón. It is an attractive building with a typical island’s architecture. It is claimed that Christopher Columbus stayed there in 1492 while one of his ships was repaired, that’s why the name ?️ Casa de Colón.

5️⃣ CAAM

For every modern art lover, there is the CAAM museum (Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno). The entrance to this museum is completely free and there are different exhibitions. The main building is quite big so you can easily spend there one hour and the second building is way smaller but still interesting and worth visiting!

6️⃣ Playa de las Canteras

After all the sights, it’s time for a beach! ?️ Las Canteras is Las Palmas’ biggest beach and of course the most popular one. The beach is so long, that it is divided into small parts, each with a different name and with a different purpose. You can find more about these parts in this article. In Las Canteras, you can be ? surfing, ?‍♀️ swimming, ?snorkeling, ? playing different beach sports, ☀️ or simply enjoying the sun on a sunbed.

7️⃣ Playa del Confital

When you walk along the promenade of Las Canteras heading north, you come to the end. But don’t turn around thinking that there is nothing else to see! Continue straight to the beach El Confital where you will see the most beautiful sunset of Las Palmas. This beach has a sitting area perfect for picnics and the waves perfect for experienced surfers.

8️⃣ Jardín Botanico Canario Viera y Clavijo

Don’t worry, we didn’t forget about you – plant lovers! This botanical garden is easily reached by bus. It has more than 500 species of different plants, typical for Gran Canaria. ? Cactuses, ? palms, ? flowers, everything in one place, and your eyes won’t know where to look first! Make sure you have enough time to enjoy it all, we recommend around 2 hours.
